Helping To Develop Future Health Care Professionals
Health care workforce shortages in California, including the Central Valley, are a critical concern. Kaiser Permanente is taking a leadership role by increasing its commitment to educate and train health care professionals to meet the demands of communities in the Central Valley.
“Kaiser Permanente is one of the largest employers of nurses, physicians and other medical professionals in communities like Modesto, Manteca and Stockton,” said Moses Elam, M.D., Physician-in-Chief, for Kaiser Permanente in the Central Valley Area. “We’re not only responding to workforce shortages, we are investing in training programs to help resolve this growing concern.”
“Among the workforce shortages, nurses are some of the most critically needed,” said Dr. Elam. “We partner with educational institutions like California State University, Stanislaus, Modesto Junior College and San Joaquin Delta College, and provide grants and scholarships to deserving students. Every hospital and health organization is in need of medical personnel. We are making a difference in helping to increase the number of medical graduates who can work throughout our communities.”
In 2006, Kaiser Permanente committed more than $800,000 to medical professional training programs, medical libraries, and health research in Northern California.
