What is Community Benefit
Our work in the community is fundamental to our mission and the way we practice medicine. That’s why Kaiser Permanente invests millions of dollars each year to spread health throughout our communities. Our comprehensive Community Benefit program meets the needs of people who are uninsured or underinsured through charity care — free and discounted care in our emergency rooms and facilities.
The programs highlighted below represent some of our work in the community and reflect our commitment to care, coverage and prevention. We hope it gives you a sense of what motivates us and what our community benefit program does to support those in need within our community.
• Healthy Eating Active Living (HEAL) is a multifaceted strategy to address the obesity epidemic and the health issues that can result from poor nutrition and lack of exercise.
• Improving access to education, prevention services, and early intervention programs for uninsured and underinsured vulnerable populations for substance abuse, mental health services, and violence prevention in the community.
• Improving the prevention, early intervention, treatment, and management of chronic conditions, for uninsured and underinsured vulnerable populations.
