Flu Information Update

A large number of people are experiencing flu-like symptoms in Northern California.  If you think you are in need of medical attention, you may be able to avoid wait time by making medical appointments online. If you need information about flu symptoms and what to do if you think you have it, go to kp.org/mydoctor/flu for frequently asked questions and health guidelines.  And, it’s not too late for a flu shot to help protect you. As always, if you feel you are having a medical emergency, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room.

 

Kaiser Permanente Modesto Medical Center receives top patient safety ranking from prestigious national group

Kaiser Permanente Modesto Medical Center today received the top “A” grade for patient safety from the Leapfrog Group’s fall 2017 Safety Grade.

The Leapfrog Group, an independent national nonprofit run by employers and other large purchasers of health benefits, released its Hospital Safety Scores after examining publicly available data on patient injuries, medical and medication errors and infections at U.S. hospitals, which were then assigned letter grades for their safety records.

Kaiser Permanente awards nearly $100,000 to advance mental health practices at Stagg High School in Stockton

As part of its ongoing commitment to improve access to mental health programs in the community and advance school-based wellness, Kaiser Permanente has awarded a $98,000 grant to expand the use of trauma-informed practices at Stagg High School in Stockton with a range of mental health related services and training for school staff, teachers and students.

The award to Delta Health Care, which operates a campus-based health center at Stagg High School, is one of 18 grants Kaiser Permanente is providing to community-based organizations that will reach 21 public middle schools or high schools across northern California. All the schools being served are in high-need communities where 50 percent or more of students qualify for free or reduce-priced lunch programs.

Flu shot clinics now open in Modesto, Stockton, Manteca, and Tracy

The annual influenza season is approaching, and Kaiser Permanente has opened its seasonal flu vaccination clinics, where members can receive their flu shots at no charge, and without an appointment.

The vaccination can help prevent the flu and keep the virus from spreading to others. Even healthy people can develop serious complications or die from the flu. Kaiser Permanente recommends everyone six months and older should get a flu vaccination each year.

Manteca and Modesto hospitals awarded honors for stroke and heart disease care

Kaiser Permanente’s Manteca and Modesto medical centers were recently recognized by the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association for their life-saving protocols used to care for patients with heart disease and stroke.
