Volunteer with Hospice
“Volunteering with a hospice patient is the most rewarding thing I’ve done in my life.”
– J.S., Kaiser Permanente Hospice Volunteer
Thank you for your interest in becoming a Kaiser Permanente hospice volunteer. Caring and compassionate community volunteers are an integral part of our team.
Volunteers provide companionship to patients, assistance to families, telephone outreach to grieving family members, and administrative support to hospice staff. But time and time again, our volunteers tell us that they receive much more than they give.
No special skills or education are required, only a generosity of heart. Training and ongoing support are provided to all volunteers; prior experience is not needed.
Serving as a hospice volunteer requires:
- Being available for up to four hours of service per week
- Submitting an application and two letters of recommendation
- Successfully completing an interview
- Successfully passing a background check
- Completing 30 hours of training
- Completing health screening requirements , including annual TB screening
- Completing yearly competency training and testing
- Attending monthly volunteer meetings
How to get started?
Download and print our Volunteer Application . Once you complete your application, mail it along with two letters of recommendation to the address provided on the application.
Our hospice volunteer coordinator will review your application and letters of recommendation and if a preliminary match is determined based on your interests, goals, availability and our current volunteer openings, the coordinator will contact you to schedule an interview.
