Pathology
The pathology department at Kaiser Permanente is led by board-certified pathologists who diagnose various disease processes by studying body fluids or tissue specimens taken by biopsy or surgical resection. Most common is the diagnosis of cancer, which is only made with certainty by a pathologist. However, a wide variety of pre-cancerous and inflammatory conditions are also diagnosed through microscopic examination. The pathologists also oversee the clinical laboratory.
