Perioperative Medicine (POM)

Perioperative Medicine (POM) provides services by preparing patients for surgery in all surgical specialties supported by Fremont, Hayward, San Leandro & Union City requiring care in the Inpatient, Hospital Ambulatory Surgery (HAS), and Ambulatory Surgery Department (ASD) surgical venues.

Perioperative Medicine (POM) is composed of nurse practitioners, hospital based specialists, management staff and medical assistants with anesthesiologist oversight. The purpose of POM is to complete preop history, manage medical condition(s) and perioperative medication(s) of the patient to optimize their health prior to surgery. We are a referral department. Your surgeon specifies whether your appointment will be a telephone or an in-person appointment.

The information in the Passport to Surgery concerns your preparations for your upcoming surgery. It is very important that you review the information to be better prepared. You must complete this prior to your surgery for medical clearance and instructions.

If you have any questions, please call as directed below:

  1. Canceling or changing the date of a surgery, please call Surgery Support Services at 510-675-5111. Surgery Support Services is available M-F from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m..
  2. To change a preop consultation, please call Perioperative Medicine at San Leandro: 510-454-7600. POM Clinic is available M-F 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 1:30 to 4:30 p.m..
  3. Information about post-op care including any work leaves, please call your surgeon’s office.
  4. Arrival Time Information: You will receive a call within 3 business days prior to your surgery to confirm arrival time and registration location. If you do not receive this notification, please call:
