Summer Interns Make Their Mark at Kaiser Permanente
Kaiser Permanente was pleased to once again host 20 summer interns in the Napa Solano Area as part of the KP Launch program(formerly the Kaiser Permanente Summer Youth Employment Program), focused on developing the next generation of health care workers.
The students worked in various departments at the Kaiser Permanente medical centers in Vacaville and Vallejo and were selected from a very competitive pool of applicants . The eight-week program offers students the opportunity to work in areas such as information technology, optometry, human resources, physical therapy, laboratory, pharmacy, radiology, and food service. In addition to working 40 hours a week, students also participated in regular educational day sessions, covering topics such as public speaking with Toastmasters, financial literacy, and career planning.
Since it started in 1968, Kaiser Permanente’s internship program has been a valuable tool for teaching students about the work force. It has proven so effective that some graduates of the program have even returned to Kaiser Permanente as either full- or part-time employees.
