Get tips to help care for loved ones with dementia and Alzheimer's
Kaiser Permanente is partnering with the Alzheimer’s Association of Northern California to offer a series of educational seminars for patients with dementia and their caregivers. The next of these will take place Tuesday, July 23, 2019 at the Modesto Medical Center.
The presentation will focus on two separate topics: “Healthy Living for your Brain and Body” and “Driver Safety and the Aging Driver.”
The first topic explores the connection between the brain and body, and cites research into the areas of diet and nutrition, exercise, cognitive activity, and social engagement. Participants will receive hands-on tools to incorporate these recommendations into a plan for healthy aging.
Later in the program, a Senior Ombudsman from the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) will share ideas for safe, prolonged driving independence for older drivers.
“Our health and nutrition needs change as we get older, so it is important to know how our diet, along with exercise and other activities, can help keep our minds sharp,” said Maria Dizon, MD, Sub-Chief of Medicine for Elder Care and Medical Director for the Central Valley’s Memory Clinic and Skilled Nursing Medicine Department. “This seminar will offer a lot of practical information that can immediately be put into practice, plus some great tips for safer driving as we age.”
This seminar is open to Kaiser Permanente members and non-members. There is no cost to attend, but space is limited so pre-registration is requested. To reserve your space, call the Alzheimer’s Association at 800-272-3900 or email ivilleda@alz.org.
