Excellence in Care
Our Antioch and Walnut Creek Medical Centers are home to several Kaiser Permanente centers for specialized care – centers of knowledge, expertise, and advanced technology – supported by specially trained surgeons, physicians and other medical practitioners.
Interventional Services
Cardiac Catheterization– This unit provides advanced diagnostic and interventional procedures to treat patients with blocked arteries that can lead to heart attacks. Patients are treated using the latest technology, like balloon catheters, guidewires, and drug-coated stents. Our lab is available 24/7 to treat our most serious heart cases.
Interventional Radiology– This unit uses high-tech imaging to perform a variety of surgeries with precision. Our radiologists work with other specialty physicians to treat conditions involving arteries and veins. Procedures include biopsies, drainage and dialysis-related treatments.
Vascular Procedures– A subspecialty of general surgery, specially-trained vascular surgeons perform procedures to treat conditions related to the vascular systems (arteries and veins), such as cleaning the carotid artery that provides blood from the neck to the brain and implanting medical devices to assist in treating cancer patients.
ST-Elevation Myocardial Infarction (STEMI)– Walnut Creek is a Contra Costa County-designated center — both for Kaiser Permanente members and for nonmembers — in the use of cardiac catheterization to treat severe heart attacks.
Primary Stroke Centers
Our Antioch and Walnut Creek Medical Centers have been awarded “Certificates of Distinction” for their exceptional efforts to foster better outcomes for stroke care.
Our physicians and nurses have been specially trained to meet the unique and specialized needs of stroke patients. Certification by The Joint Commission signifies that the service we provide has the critical elements to achieve long-term success in improving outcomes.
Cancer Center
At our Walnut Creek Cancer Center, we provide a multidisciplinary approach where physicians from a variety of specialties gather to discuss your medical history, your diagnostic tests, and the treatment plan that is right for you. Social workers, dietitians, and care coordinators are also available to support you. With everyone to help you in one place, we simplify your journey through cancer treatment by combining multiple office visits into one clinical consultation.
Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)
Our Walnut Creek Medical Center is a California Children’s Services-certified Level III NICU and our Antioch Medical Center has a Level II NICU, where a team of neonatologists, pediatricians, respiratory therapists, and specially trained nurses provides care for infants with all types of issues, including premature births, infections, and respiratory distress.
Robotic Laparoscopic Surgery (Urology)
Minimally invasive procedures for treating prostate cancer are performed using the da Vinci® Surgical System, a surgical robot. With this robotic system, precision instruments are introduced through small incisions, allowing the surgeon to perform prostate removal with greater control than possible with the human hand.
Ortho/Podiatry Centers of Excellence
At our Antioch Medical Center, we perform both outpatient and inpatient Orthopedic surgery using the latest technology, including advanced laparoscopic and arthroscopic minimally invasive procedures.
