The Department of Surgery at the Oakland Medical Center provides continuous coverage for infants and children with congenital malformations and conditions that require surgical care in infancy, childhood and adolescence. Conditions such as neonatal intestinal anomalies, abdominal wall and thoracic anomalies, hernias, undescended testes, appendicitis, tumors, intestinal obstruction, inflammatory bowel disease, gastroesophageal reflux, and disorders of the lungs and chest wall are commonly treated through this department.
Pediatric surgical patients are cared for by personnel dedicated to the care of children. Parents can usually stay with their child while in the hospital. The Oakland Medical Center is a busy regional referral center for critically-ill neonates and children who require care in our sophisticated, state-of-the-art Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU).
