Single Incision Surgery
The Department of Surgery is excited to offer a new minimally invasive technique called Single Incision Laparoscopic Surgery. Single Incision Laparoscopic Surgery is performed just like standard laparoscopic surgeries yet uses only one incision through the umbilicus (belly button). This approach takes advantage of the natural scar at the umbilicus and provides the patient with the well-known benefits of minimally invasive surgery, less post-operative pain and a quicker recovery, all through an incision that will be essentially invisible once it heals. We have successfully performed over 100 single incision surgeries. These include cholecystectomy (gallbladder removal), appendectomy, colon resection for cancer and benign disease, gastric resection, and liver cyst resection.
