Medicare

Medicare is the federal health insurance program for people age 65 or older, some people under age 65 with disabilities, and for people with end-stage renal disease. Medicare is administered by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).

The Medicare program has two parts:

  • Hospital Coverage (Part A) helps pay for inpatient hospital care, skilled nursing care, home health benefits, and hospice care.
  • Medical Insurance (Part B) helps pay for physician’s services, outpatient services, laboratory fees, speech therapy, some medical equipment, and ambulance services. Part B coverage is optional.

If you are a Kaiser Permanente member with Medicare parts A and B, you may have assigned your Medicare benefits to Kaiser Permanente, if so and you need more information, please contact our Member Services Call Center, toll-free, at 1-800-464-4000 for more assistance or see the CMS website: cms.hhs.gov
