Welcome to the Oakland Adult Travel Clinic!
Are you planning international travel?
To prepare for your trip, you will have a personal telephone consult with a nurse, specifically trained in travel medicine, to assess your travel health needs. Your nurse will gather information, ask you questions, and make recommendations for your travel needs. You will have the opportunity to ask questions and participate in the decision-making. After the telephone consult, you may receive recommended immunizations and/ or have oral medications. You can typically come in the next day to receive your immunizations and pick up oral medication from our pharmacies. We serve adults over the age of 18.

Parking
Parking is directly across the street. We suggest that you allow an extra 15 minutes to park.

Monday-Friday:
8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 1:45 to 4:30 p.m.
Every 3rd Thursday of the month:
9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 1:45 to 4:30 p.m.

How far in advance do I make an appointment?
You should make your appointment at least 4-6 weeks prior to your travel date. Some countries require a series of immunizations that can take longer than 4-6 weeks (please see the link to the CDC Website).
What information should I have ready before my appointment?
Please have the following information ready before your telephone appointment: The urban areas and/or rural areas you may visit, and a list of travel or other immunizations you have had to date.
How do I schedule an appointment?

Can two or more of us be seen during one appointment?
Each person should schedule their own appointment. Usually we can schedule these back to back.
What will the nurse ask during my appointment?
- Review your travel plans and ask about activities, and other things that impact travel health
- Ask if you are doing rural travel, urban travel, or both
- Talk about health risks specific to your trip, based on the CDC and other databases
- Review your health history as it relates to travel, your medications, allergies, medical conditions, and immunization history
- Recommend vaccines & medications for your specific trip
- Discuss the risks & benefits of each recommendation
- Assess your malaria risk and discuss prevention medications
- Discuss side effects of recommended treatment
- Advise you how to stay healthy and avoid or manage common travel health problems
- Answer your questions
- Transmit oral medication prescriptions to the pharmacy of your choice
- Route recommended immunizations to a physician who is trained in travel for authorization
