Caring for our Community

For more than 70 years, Kaiser Permanente has had the same mission: to provide high-quality, affordable health care services and to improve the health of our members and our communities. We’ve always known that good health goes beyond health care.

We believe healthy individuals need healthy communities to thrive, and healthy communities need healthy people.

We have a broad approach to improving the health and well-being of our communities that go beyond our grants and sponsorships. We recognize the impacts of social determinants like education, safe neighborhoods, food access, support systems, and employment on the health of our communities. We seek to make “upstream” investments in schools, neighborhood parks, local clinics, and a wide range of community-based organizations to improve “downstream” health outcomes.

Here in the Sacramento and Roseville areas, we have identified four critical health needs where we focus our efforts:

Four Focus Areas: Access to Care- Make a direct impact with our own charitable coverage programs and support the safety net of community clinics to provide high quality care outside our walls. Healthy Eating Active Living- Create healthy environments to help people eat better and move more, preventing and reducing the impact of chronic conditions. Mental Health and Wellness- Promote social-emotional health and well-being and improve access to high quality behavioral health care services. Community and Family Safety- Support prevention and intervention of family and community violence, and victims of those at-risk of violence.

Greater Sacramento Investment Highlights 2018

Community Benefit Grants

Through our annual Community Benefit grants program, Kaiser Permanente supports local organizations that are working to improve the health of the communities we serve. Our 2017-2019 grants are focused on addressing the four health needs listed above.

We require all interested applicants to fill out a Letter of Intent to be added to the announcement list for future funding opportunities.
