Midwifery Services
Kaiser Permanente – North Valley
(Point West, Downtown Commons, and Roseville)
Certified Nurse-Midwives (CNMs) at Kaiser Permanente provides care to low-risk women in both the clinic and Labor and Delivery. Our nurse-midwife team provides around-the-clock care in labor and delivery in the Roseville Women’s and Children’s Hospital.
CNMs are specialists in normal pregnancy and birth. We work in partnership with the women we care for and their families, helping to prepare them for birth and parenting, creating an environment where women can avoid unnecessary interventions, and providing education and support throughout the process.
Nurse-midwives are advanced practice nurses; we are registered nurses (RNs) with experience in labor and delivery, and two years of graduate-level training in midwifery. In addition, CNMs are nationally board certified by the American College of Nurse-Midwives and state-licensed to practice. Most CNMs are also certified as Nurse Practitioners.
In the hospital, nurse-midwives care for women throughout labor, delivery and postpartum, which includes ordering any necessary medications and treatments for coping with labor, including nitrous oxide and epidurals, as well as delivering babies, assisting in cesarean deliveries, and taking care of concerns in the postpartum period.
In the clinic, we provide care for women throughout their pregnancy, from the first prenatal appointment, up until the postpartum visit. To make an appointment with a Nurse Midwife, please call 916-784-4000.
CNMs are part of the OB provider team; should complications arise during a woman’s pregnancy or birth, we have immediate access to our physician colleagues for consultation regarding any high-risk concerns, or referring patients to physician care as needed.
