Kaiser Permanente Redwood City Medical Center is home to the Neuroscience Center, a center of knowledge, expertise, technological equipment and advancements for various neuro-related medical specialties. Our Center provides specialized neurological care to Kaiser Permanente members from all of Northern California. Our Neuroscience Center is dedicated to advancing the latest techniques and available procedures to our members.
Neurosurgery
Our Neurosurgery Department specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of disorders affecting the central and peripheral nerve system. These would include brain and spine tumors, complex spine disease requiring surgery, vascular lesions, movement disorders and complex pain problems.
We employ a multidisciplinary approach to care that combines the talents and expertise of providers from different specialties. Providing the best care possible is our highest priority. We are equipped with the latest technology and staffed with some of the field’s top clinicians.
Comprehensive Stroke Center
Our mission is to provide primary and secondary stroke prevention for our patients and improve the treatment of stroke patients based on American Heart Association (AHA) stroke guidelines. We commit to provide the latest acute stroke therapies with a multidisciplinary approach. We provide our community with stroke prevention resources and stroke survivor/caregiver support.
Our medical center has achieved Advanced Certification as a Comprehensive Stroke Center from The Joint Commission which authorizes our hospital to perform additional neuro-invasive procedures, and, for nine years in a row, a “Get With The Guidelines—Stroke Gold Plus Performance Achievement Award” from the American Heart Association for consistently treating heart and stroke patients according to evidence-based treatment standards.

Neurointerventional Radiology
The Redwood City Neurointerventional Radiology (INR) team diagnoses and treats disorders of the human nervous system. We have extensive experience performing embolization for vascular lesions and tumors, angioplasty and stenting of blood vessels and vertebroplasty to repair spinal fractures.
Neurology
This department sees adult and some teenage patients only by referral from other physicians or nurse practitioners. Although we see patients for a number of neurologic symptoms and problems, we emphasize neurologic follow-up for the following conditions: multiple sclerosis, movement disorders (such as Parkinson’s Disease), seizure disorders, and neuromuscular diseases (e.g., amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, myasthenia gravis, muscular dystrophy). We have close contact with primary care providers to assist in the diagnosis and management of common neurologic disorders, and emergency consultation if needed.
It started as a small tremor in her left little finger, but Darcy Blake knew it was Parkinson’s. The disease runs in Darcy’s family and it was one she knew all too well.
