Guidelines: Day of Polysomnogram
Please follow these general guidelines on the day of your polysomnogram unless otherwise directed.
- Please wash your hair, do not use any conditioner, hair styling products, makeup, moisturizing cream, lotions or oil on face or body. Men should shave facial hair stubble but do not need to shave off a beard or mustache for the sleep study.
- Try to maintain your usual daytime schedule. Avoid any physical exercise that you normally would not do or any large meals in the evening. Try to refrain from taking naps on the day of your study.
- Avoid alcoholic beverages on the day of your study. Just as a reminder alcohol and smoking are not permitted on campus. Do not drink coffee or other caffeinated beverages after 12:00 pm.
- If you are having a titration study please bring your mask with you to your appointment. It will not be necessary to bring your machine.
- It is necessary to bring sleeping attire. Patients must bring two-piece attire to maintain modesty and to allow for ease of placement of monitoring equipment.
- Please bring toiletries (e.g. toothpaste, toothbrush). The sleep clinic provides towels and bedding
If you’re child has a sleep study:
- Please make sure to bring enough diapers and formula for at least 12 hours. There is no patient refrigerator on site, please bring a cooler if needed.
- To prepare your child for a sleep study, please talk about the study ahead of time. You can refer to the study as a “sleep over” with you in the lab.
- Feel free to bring their favorite books or DVD, tablet, and toys.
