Surgery Department

If you need to have an operation it can be a stressful time. We want to make things as easy for you as possible. On this page you can learn more about your type of surgery, your surgeon, and the surgery process from start to finish. If you have questions, you can always refer to your surgeon’s office or any of the contacts listed within this site.

If you and your doctor have decided that an operation is necessary, following this checklist is a good place to start.

Select your surgery date

  • When you’re in the office, we may already have surgery dates to offer you for your procedure. If not, the Surgery Scheduling Department will notify you when they have received your information from your surgeon, and will call you when a date is available. If necessary, Surgery Scheduling will also schedule any pre-op appointments or classes when they become available.
  • If you’d like, you may also contact Surgery Scheduling directly for any questions you may have regarding your surgery date.

Prepare your questions in advance

A lot of questions can come up after you decide to proceed with your surgery. It’s a good idea to keep a notepad with you and write down all of your questions to be answered by your surgeon’s office at your pre-op appointments.

Consider your needs for Post-Operative care

  • Your surgeon should go over what will be involved in your recovery process. This may include being admitted into the hospital, or needing care and assistance at home. Please keep this information in mind when making plans with work, school, family, or caregivers.
  • If you’d like more information on the recovery process for your procedure, please contact your surgeon’s office.
  • If you need to reschedule your surgery date please contact Surgery Scheduling at 707-624-3180, or the number you were provided by your surgeon’s office as soon as possible so we can find another date that works best for you.

Complete orders required by your surgeon

Complete any testing or lab work your surgeon or perioperative doctor may have ordered as soon as possible.

Attend your pre-op appointments

  • Remember to attend and be on time for any classes, appointments, or telephone calls before your surgery. Telephone appointments are best attended in a quiet area.
  • You can see these appointment times listed in the Appointment Center on your kp.org account. Your surgery date will not be listed.
  • If you do not have a kp.org account, register now at www.kp.org.

Learn about your financial obligations

Complete the pre-admission process

To make things easier on the day of surgery, you can fill out your pre-admission paperwork over the phone by calling the Admitting Department. They can also go over your financial responsibilities and give you more information about your hospital stay.

Keep your doctor updated

If you need to cancel or change your surgery date, call Surgery Scheduling as soon as possible so that we can provide you with the most possible alternatives. If you are feeling ill close to your surgery date, let your surgeon know so that you can discuss your options and lessen your chances of having to reschedule your surgery.
