ABOUT US
Hospice is a program designed to provide comfort and care for people who are terminally ill during their final stages of life and support for their caregivers. The goal of hospice is to provide physical, emotional and spiritual support to patients and their families and manages symptoms such as pain and nausea. The goal is not to cure, but to care—to help improve the quality of everyday life for patients and their loved ones. Hospice helps patients live as fully and comfortably as possible, while providing support for the entire family.
Hospice care is provided by a team of healthcare professionals and trained volunteers. Care is focused on honoring patients’ wishes and ensuring their personal dignity. Hospice care is provided where the patient lives, whether at home or in a care facility.
Hospice nurses are experts in pain and symptom management. In addition to the hands-on care they provide, they teach family members what they need to know about caring for a loved one at home. Other team members include a social worker, home health aide, volunteer, and chaplain. Hospice care also includes bereavement follow-up to support loved ones.
