The Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine (POM) is responsible for the evaluation and preparation of all patients scheduled for surgery at Kaiser Permanente South San Francisco Hospital Main Operating Room.
Perioperative medicine (POM) addresses the medical care of surgical patients. During your POM appointment, we will gather information about your overall health. This enables your surgical care team to:
- ensure that you are in the best shape possible BEFORE surgery
- provide you with appropriate care DURING surgery
- anticipate needs for successful recovery AFTER your surgery
Your care and comfort are our top priority. We want you to have all the information you need to understand what to expect before, during, and after your surgery, along with how to prepare for the day of your surgery. Your skilled team of physicians, nurses, and support staff is looking forward to providing you with personalized and compassionate care throughout your visit and during your recovery. We encourage you to work together with them to help ensure a successful surgery and recovery.
