Frequently asked Questions:

What is the purpose of the preop appointment?

Once your surgery date has been set, your surgeon’s office will schedule your preoperative appointment with a hospital medicine physician or a nurse practitioner specializing in perioperative medicine. Depending on your procedure and your medical condition, you may be scheduled for a formal office visit or an evaluation by telephone.  This preoperative appointment will assess whether your general health is acceptable for undergoing surgery and help to optimize your general health prior to surgery.

When will I speak to my anesthesiologist?

Your anesthesiologist will contact you a few days prior to surgery by email via kp.org or by mail to introduce themselves. You will also have a chance to speak to your anesthesiologist on the day of surgery before you receive any sedation.

When is my arrival time for surgery?

Your surgery scheduler will contact you one week to one business day prior to your surgery to confirm your surgery arrival time and location.
