Our Genetic Counselors

Carlyne Ludington, MS, LCGC

My Background

I grew up in the near-west suburbs of the amazing city of Chicago, Illinois, where I inherited my lifelong loyalty to and passion for Chicago sports teams.

Education & Experience

I’ve had a lifelong passion for science, especially biology, which led me to a Bachelor of Science degree in biology from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. It was during the pursuit of my biology degree, when I learned of the genetic counseling profession. It attracted me instantly, with its focus on the human experience of disease, and in particular, hereditary disease. That led me to Southern California, where I obtained my Master of Science degree in genetic counseling at California State University, Northridge. I have been working at the Kaiser Permanente Baldwin Park Medical Center since completing my graduate degree in 1999.

About My Practice

I am involved in all areas of practice, including preconception, prenatal, pediatric, cancer, etc. I feel privileged to be able to provide support and education to both our members and to other health care providers, as they encounter issues and challenges in the increasingly complex landscape of medical genetics. We are so fortunate here at Kaiser Permanente to be able to provide care for our members in an integrated system that focuses on quality care and total health.

My experience as a genetic counselor has led to an interest in medical ethics. I have been a member of the bioethics committee here at Kaiser Permanente Baldwin Park since 2008. I am also a member of the National Society of Genetic Counselors.

How I Thrive

I enjoy spending time with my husband and children. We take advantage of the beautiful So Cal weather as often as we can in hiking, biking, and always finding new things and places to experience and explore.
