Our Genetic Counselors

Viktor Moser, MS, LCGC

My Background

Growing up, I had the opportunity to live in four different countries and traveled to many more. It instilled within me a curiosity and appreciation for people of different cultures and nationalities.

Education & Experience

My interest in people, along with my fascination with genetics, led me to complete a Bachelor of Science degree in genetics in the United Kingdom and a master of science in genetic counseling at the University of California, Irvine. After graduating from UCI in 2003, I’ve spent most of my career helping pregnant couples understand the intricacies of genetics and assisting them with some of the difficult situations and feelings that arise with hereditary disease.

About My Practice

Since beginning work at Kaiser Permanente in 2008, I’ve also been helping families understand and deal with the nature of cancer genetics and disease prevention. Every day is rewarding when I am able to sit down with an individual or family and hear their stories, both happy and sad. Dealing with a genetic condition can be challenging.  However, given a little time with a genetic counselor as a guide, our patients can feel more comfortable with the genetic information provided and become empowered to make important decisions for themselves and their families.

Working at Kaiser Permanente Los Angeles Medical Center, with its cultural and ethnic diversity, allows me to continue experiencing the joy of meeting people from around the world without the high cost of traveling. It also helps me keep my Spanish and German language skills sharp when the occasion arises. I look forward to the opportunity of getting to know you and feel privileged to be a part of your care.

How I Thrive

Aside from spending time with people at work, I spend a lot of time with literally thousands of others while running races. When my wife and I began running in 2012, we were barely able to complete a mile. With encouragement, and sometimes cajoling, from good friends, we gradually improved and did what we thought was impossible by running our first marathon in 2014.

Running has changed us and become a part of our daily lives. It was extremely difficult at first and has led to both failures and triumphs, times of pain and times of happiness.
