    • Same Day Surgery — 1 visitor only

    • Pediatrics, PICU, NICU — 1 visitor at a time, rotating between 2 designated caregivers
    • Hospice / End of Life — 1 visitor only
  • Anyone 14 or younger, who is not a patient, may not visit patients at this time

Advance Directives

The Federal Patient Self-Determination Act of 1990 requires hospitals to inform patients of their legal rights to refuse or accept medical treatment if they become incapacitated.

In California, the legally recognized document for ensuring your rights is the Advance Directive. This document lets you name another person to make medical decisions on your behalf in the case that you cannot speak for yourself. An Advance Directive can help ensure that your wishes regarding medical treatment are honored.

The Advance Directive is the new format for the Natural Death Act Declaration, or living will, in California. It also supersedes the Durable Power of Attorney for Health Care (DPAHC) for appointing a health care agent. A DPAHC executed before 1992 has expired and should be replaced with an Advance Health Care Directive. All other DPAHCs and Natural Death Act Declarations remain valid. Keep in mind, however, that Advance Directives give you more flexibility to state your health care preferences, so you may wish to complete a new form anyway.

Before stating your health care preferences in writing, you may want to discuss them with your family, physician, spiritual counselor, or attorney. To get an Advance Directive Kit, contact our Social Services Department at 818-375-2977.

Hospital Visitation Policy

Visitors are welcome and encouraged at the Panorama City Medical Center hospital. Your family and friends can play a key role in helping you recover and supporting you when you leave the hospital. Each patient room has a family zone designed the comfort of your visitors, including a bed for overnight stays.

Family includes any person not legally related to the patient, spouses, domestic partners, both different-sex and same-sex significant others. Family also includes a minor patient's parents, regardless of gender of either parent. Parenthood includes: legal parents, foster parents, same-sex parent, step-parents, those serving in loco parentis, and other persons acting as caretakers.

Visitors include any person of the patient's choosing, if the patient has decision-making capacity, regardless of sex, economic status, educational background, race, color, religion, ancestry, national origin, sexual orientation, sexual identity, gender identity or marital status.

Visiting guidelines vary depending on the patient’s reason for hospitalization and are at the discretion of the medical team. If you have concerns regarding these guidelines, please discuss them with your nurse.

Important considerations regarding visitation

      • Because people in the hospital often have compromised immune systems, anyone who is experiencing a cough, cold, or other symptoms of illness should not visit.
      • To prevent the spread of illness, visitors should wash their hands frequently, and upon entering and leaving the patient’s room.
      • Visitors under age 12 must be accompanied by an adult at all times. This is for the health of both patients and children.
      • Under certain circumstances, physicians or staff may ask visitors to leave the room while examining a patient or performing a procedure.
      • Due to the fact that some people have latex allergies, no latex balloons shall be brought into the hospital.

The most important consideration when visiting should always be the safety of the patient and his or her right to a restful environment that supports health.

Family-Centered Care, Third Floor: Your family and friends are welcome to visit anytime, and your spouse, partner, or other family member may stay overnight in your room with your permission.

Intensive Care Unit (ICU), First Floor: Family members and friends may visit anytime, but a maximum of two visitors per patient is allowed in the room at any one time. Your spouse, partner, or other family member may also stay overnight with your permission.

Labor and Delivery, Third Floor: With your permission, adult family members and friends, as well as children of the new mother who are over age 12, may visit anytime. In the event of a cesarean section or other situation that requires surgical intervention, your spouse or birthing partner may be with you in the operating suite, at the discretion of the medical team.

Medical Surgical Units, Fourth and Fifth Floors: Family and friends are welcome to visit at any time and may stay overnight with your permission.

Newborn Nursery/Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), Third Floor: Parents (and grandparents, with parental permission) have unlimited visiting hours. Siblings over age 3 may visit but must remain at a parent’s side at all times.

Perioperative Services, Second Floor: Following a brief intake process, a maximum of two visitors may stay with you in the perioperative holding area, until you're taken to the operating room. For your safety, no visitors are allowed in the operating room or in the post-anesthesia recovery room.

Patients with Disabilities

The Federal Americans with Disabilities Act of 1992 requires all businesses, including hospitals, to provide policies, practices, and facilities that address the needs of people with physical or mental disabilities.

Kaiser Permanente has been a leader in identifying and resolving access and communication barriers for many years. We have also implemented many services that meet or exceed local, state, and national regulations. Alert one of your Kaiser Permanente health care team members if you need additional assistance or accommodations.
