Weaning
Weaning is a big step for you and your baby. It’s the time he or she switches from breastfeeding to bottle-feeding or from breast or bottle-feeding to a cup or solid foods.
There is no right or wrong time to start weaning your baby, except it’s best to wean your baby from a bottle by 18 months of age.
Weaning usually works best when you take it nice and easy. It might even take several months.
Your baby is ready to wean when he or she:
- Loses interest in breastfeeding
- Sucks a few times, then stops
- Bottle-fed babies may spit out the nipple or want to drink from a cup
How to wean your baby
- Skip one feeding every 5 to 7 days
