Travel back to 1985 — the year that the Academy Award-winning film “The Color Purple” was released, the song “We Are The World,” featuring more than 15 legendary musicians, climbed the charts, and a gallon of gas cost slightly more than a dollar.

It was also the year that Kaiser Permanente opened its first medical office in Georgia, introducing the Peach State to our unique approach to health care.

Our arrival was welcomed with true southern hospitality. That first year, 265 members signed up for what is now Georgia’s largest non-profit health care program, and began to enjoy the benefits of having a team of providers meeting their needs with coordinated, personalized care.

Since then, we’ve expanded our Georgia facilities to 26 locations and our membership has grown to almost 270,000. We also have a network of 450 physicians who are committed to a daily mission of providing higher quality care at an affordable cost.

When we arrived in Georgia in 1985, the Internet didn’t exist. Fast forward 30 years, and almost 90 percent of Americans have broadband Internet, according to the Pew Institute. Meanwhile, Kaiser Permanente’s kp.org is the industry standard for a convenient and secure online destination where members can make appointments, request prescription refills, obtain medical records, and access a wealth of educational information. In addition, as mobile usage continues to soar, KP now offers several apps to make health care even more convenient, accessible anytime, anywhere.

We make a big promise to our members when we talk about helping them thrive. Wellness and prevention have been at the heart of our philosophy for 3 decades.

Georgia, it’s been our pleasure to serve you for 30 years. We look forward to continuing to grow with you!
