New Parent Resources

Congratulations! Your birth experience will be one of the most memorable moments of your life. Our Labor and Delivery unit, Mother/Baby unit, and Nursery provide a friendly and warm environment to support the birthing experience of families and their new arrivals. Our trained, compassionate health care team of Registered Nurses, and Obstetricians are clinical experts in Labor and Delivery, and deliver more than 3,000 babies per year.

We are open 24 hours a day seven days a week.

Visiting hours

We welcome visitors during our hours of operation and are family and baby friendly. Visitors should be healthy and free of any signs of infection or colds.
Please note: we are a latex free environment and so do not allow latex balloons. Mylar balloons are allowed.

We offer numerous services and resources for parents, including:
Labor and Delivery: We provide a comfortable environment, state-of-the art Labor & Delivery rooms and high quality care for you during this special time.

Mom / Baby / Postpartum unit consists of beds in private and semi-private rooms with bathrooms. Babies stay in the same room with their mothers for bonding.
Lactation support: All of our RNs are trained to provide Lactation support to support you in Breastfeeding. Certified Lactation Consultants are available, by referral, while you are in the hospital. You may also contact them through the clinic after your discharge from the hospital if needed.

Labor and Delivery

Planning for birth

Before you arrive: Towards the end of your pregnancy, you’ll want to prepare yourself for your birth experience as much as possible. We offer resources such as birth classes, hospital tours, and a prenatal lecture series so you can plan for the arrival of your baby.  Please plan to bring a car seat upon discharge.

Signs and stages of labor

When you think you are in labor: Call us at 415-833-2515
If you arrive between 8:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m., please use our Emergency Department entrance located on the ramp off O’Farrell Street. The mother-to-be can be dropped off at this entrance. After dropping off the mother-to-be, companions can park in our parking garage at 2190 O’Farrell St. There are two designated “new baby” parking spots in this garage.

After parking, proceed to the 3rd floor of 2425 Geary Blvd. – if between 8:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m., please proceed thru Emergency Department and you will be directed to Labor and Delivery. Please be prepared to show your photo ID at the security desk on the entrance level of the Hospital.

Our environment
Our rooms offer you and your family many comforts. Each room has a birthing bed, foldout sleeping chair, rocking chair, television, telephone and bathroom with shower for use during your stay.

Labor & Delivery expertise and technology
Our hospital is equipped with advanced technology to monitor your progress and to ensure the health of you and your baby. Our health care team of Registered Nurses, and Obstetricians deliver more than 3,000 of babies per year so you can be sure that you are receiving care from a skilled, experienced professionals.
