Kaiser Permanente West Los Angeles Medical Center receives Get With The Guidelines-Stroke Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award

Kaiser Permanente West LA earned the award by meeting specific quality achievement measures for the diagnosis and treatment of stroke patients at a set level for a designated period. These measures include evaluation of the proper use of medications and other stroke treatments aligned with the most up-to-date, evidence-based guidelines with the goal of speeding recovery and reducing death and disability for stroke patients. Additionally, the medical center received the Association’s Target: StrokeSM Honor Roll Elite Plus award. To qualify for this recognition, hospitals must meet quality measures developed to reduce the time between the patient’s arrival at the hospital and treatment with the clot-buster tissue plasminogen activator, or tPA, the only drug approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to treat ischemic stroke. The medical center also received the Association’s Target: Type 2 Honor Roll award. To qualify for this recognition, hospitals must meet quality measures developed with more than 90 % of compliance for 12 consecutive months for the “Overall Diabetes Cardiovascular Initiative Composite Score.”

Maternity Care at Kaiser Permanente West Los Angeles Ranks Among the Best in the Nation

Kaiser Permanente West Los Angeles was one of 22 Kaiser Permanente hospitals that have been recognized among the “Best Maternity Care Hospitals 2020” by Newsweek magazine. The elite designation, awarded to only 231 hospitals in the United States, identifies leading maternity care programs based on rigorous quality and safety standards. Kaiser Permanente hospitals represent nearly 10% of those named to the prestigious list nationwide – and 44.4% of those listed in California. Newsweek’s Best Maternity Care Hospitals demonstrate the highest performance in the United States as verified by the 2019 Leapfrog Hospital Survey. Designated hospitals meet Leapfrog’s rigorous standards for excellence in maternity care — including low rates of C-section, episiotomy (an incision to enlarge the vaginal opening for childbirth), and early elective delivery and follow important protocols to protect moms and babies, among other measures. Additionally, all of the hospitals named earned either an A or B on the Spring 2020 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade.

KP West LA Receives Women's Choice Award for Bariatric Care

Kaiser Permanente West Los Angeles was designated as one of "America’s Best Hospitals” across the nation for bariatric care by receiving the Women's Choice Award. Additionally, Kaiser Permanente Southern California has received the Women’s Choice Award® designation, “California’s Most Recommended Health Insurance Plan.” The methodology for this award is based on surveys of tens of thousands of women, as well as research conducted in partnership with the Wharton School of Business on what drives the consumer experience for women vs. men. The Women's Choice Award organization distributed a statewide survey to more than 10,000 women who reside in California, and these women were asked to identify which health insurance plan they would highly recommend to their friends and family. “We pride ourselves on our patient-centered, integrated approach that creates high quality care,” said Julie Miller-Phipps, president of Kaiser Foundation Health Plan and Hospitals, Inc., for the Southern California Region. “It’s gratifying when data supports our approach and show us that our members choose Kaiser Permanente with confidence, knowing that we put their health and safety first.” According to the Women’s Choice Award®, market research shows that women influence more than 90 percent of family healthcare decisions; and a national survey conducted by the Women’s Choice Award® determined which hospitals and services women would highly recommend in today’s marketplace. These hospitals had to meet exceptionally high standards regarding women’s unique needs and preferences.
