Volunteer services
The mission of the Volunteer Services Department is to provide quality support services to our members, visitors, and staff in the Kaiser Permanente West Los Angeles service area and to our local communities.
Our volunteers include men and women 15 ½ years of age and older, and represent the culturally diverse community which forms our customer service area. Many volunteers are Kaiser Permanente members, and all share a strong desire to help and a willingness to serve where they are most needed.
Volunteers are selected, place and trained based on their skills, abilities, and service orientation without regard for race, religion, national origin, color, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation preference or medical condition. Our volunteer opportunities change rapidly, therefore placement to a department is usually determined after the on-boarding process.
Minimum requirements to participate in Volunteer Program:
- Applicant must be at least 15 1/2 years of age
- A commitment to the same 4-hour shift each week
- A commitment to volunteer for at least 100 hours over approximately one year’s time
- Demonstrate professional behavior
- Demonstrate a positive attitude, eager to be of service and flexible in work assignments

Summer Youth Employment Program
The Summer Youth Employment Program application process is closed for 2019. The 2020 application process will open again May 2020.
A Community Benefit Program geared primarily toward 11th and 12th grade students, the Kaiser Permanente LAUNCH High School Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) has been creating opportunities for underserved high school student populations since 1968. We offer paid summer work experience at Kaiser Permanente facilities throughout California and encourage students to consider that life long learning and earning power begins with a high school diploma. There are a wide variety of health care and health care support jobs available, and many students who have participated in the SYEP have chosen health care-related fields after graduation – some of them right here at Kaiser Permanente.
