With summer in full swing, take advantage of the warm, sunny weather by getting outside every day.

Our July article featured outdoor activities ideal for summers in the Mid-Atlantic Region. Now, enjoy these extra tips to help you celebrate summer while staying active every day.

Work out with some yard work

Need to boost your cardio workout? Gardening, trimming hedges, and mowing are all low-impact ways to get your heart rate up. Get outside early in the morning to beat the heat and jump-start your day.

Not an early bird? Do your yard work just before dusk, then stick around to catch the sunset.

Pose, stretch, and relax with yoga

Yoga is an excellent form of exercise and a great way to relieve stress. You can either attend a class or download an app to your smartphone. Once you have enough of the poses down, you’ll be able to design your own workouts.

A yoga workout can be just a few minutes or a couple of hours, so it’s easy to fit into a daily schedule. Just do as much as you can manage.

If you don’t have the energy for poses, even mindful breathing can be good for you. Just grab a towel or a yoga mat, find a secluded spot outside, and meditate your way to good health.

Pick summer gems at a farmers market

Farmers markets in the Mid-Atlantic Region are bursting with fresh, delicious produce this time of year. Seasonal favorites include:

  • Summer squash
  • Corn
  • Cucumbers
  • Honey
  • Beets
  • Tomatoes
  • And much more

Walking through your neighborhood market is a great way to burn some calories. While you’re there, you’ll find low-cost, environmentally friendly ingredients for some healthy, delicious recipes.

Exercise your stress away

People often find that physical activity is a great stress reliever. If you haven’t found an activity that helps you blow off steam, explore these options to get started:

  • Play basketball.
  • Jog with a friend.
  • Ride a bike.
  • Try sprints in the park.
  • Go on a wilderness hike.
  • Hit some golf balls at a driving range.
  • Go for a swim.

Making time for your favorite summer activity will help keep you feeling good, inside and out. Get outdoors and thrive.
