Grief Support

Whenever we experience loss, we grieve, and sometimes it is hard to understand all that we are feeling.

Normal reactions to any loss can include:

  • Shock/denial
  • Anger/guilt/depression
  • Fatigue
  • Feeling overwhelmed
  • Difficulty making decisions

The grief that comes with the loss of someone who has been close to us can include the above and much more. These normal reactions are some of the known responses to grief. At such times it helps to have supportive people in our lives who know some of what we are experiencing and can help us as we go through this difficult time.

These Kaiser Permanente Greif Support resources are open to the community and free of charge.

San Leandro: 8-week, evening Grief Support Group.  For more information and to register for the group please call 510-454-4728.
Fremont: 8-week, afternoon Grief Support Group.  For more information and to register for the group please call 510-248-7095.

The purpose of Kaiser Permanente’s Grief Support Program is to offer the opportunity for people who are grieving to:

  • Talk about their grief in a safe environment
  • Find support
  • Gain deepened awareness
  • Expand their knowledge and understanding of grief
  • Learn tools that may help them move through grief

In all of these opportunities, participants will be invited to share their experiences/feelings of loss with each other. We will also take the time to learn more about grief as a normal life process and find out what resources are available to us. We often discover that others have feelings similar to ours and that accepting our feelings can help us to survive, heal, and grow.
