What is Co-Dependency?
Regardless of the family system, addiction is a major stress on individual members and the family system. Addiction causes an economic drain on family resources, threatens job security, and interrupts normal family tasks and responsibilities.
In the past few years, there have been numerous attempts to define “CO-DEPENDENCY.” Counselors and other clinicians have always known that addiction touched the whole family—that, in effect, spouses and children and relatives of addicts could become “CO-DEPENDENTS” – in a sense – ADDICTED TO THE ADDICT!
