Caring for a Person with Dementia Handbook
This brief guide has been designed to help you consider some steps you may wish to take after receiving the news that you or a loved one has Alzheimer’s disease or another type of dementia. It is written to include those who have been diagnosed very early on and who may wish to make certain preparations for their future. It also contains helpful suggestions for family members and others in your care.
This guide is not intended to be comprehensive. There have been many books and brochures written about dementia. To become well informed, you will probably need to consult these resources. However, it is our hope that the information you find in this handbook will be a valuable “first step” in helping you and those you love understand where to start in coping with this new and challenging situation in your life. Please complete the care provider information and medication list and update it periodically.
Caring for a person with dementia can be a rewarding experience. However, caregivers also experience mixed emotions as helping your loved one may also cause physical and emotional exhaustion. Even though there is no known cure for dementia at this time, our team will continue to assist you during this journey to enhance the quality of life for your loved ones and you.
